In honor of Global Wellness Day, I am sharing three easy steps that will not only make you feel better, will actually make you healthier—instantly. Drum roll, please.....
Drink More Water
Before you roll your eyes, hear me out. Craving that glow, you know which glow, that sultry dewy glow that radiates from the inside? Pick up the H2O. Dehydration happens every day from skin evaporation, sweating, and EVEN BREATHING. Basically, you are always losing water, especially in warm summer months. If you’ve indulged in one too many glasses of too-good-to-be-true rosé (guilty) from the night before. Reach for a refreshing drink of water to rehydrate your brain, energize your muscles, and plumps your skin. I’m not kidding, it happens that quickly. Still not craving a glass? Try a green juice! Twenty percent of our fluid intake comes from food, according to WebMD. So throw in a nutrient-rich veggie juice in the mix for extra UMPH!
Blue Print Kale It Up, is one of my favorites.
Think Positive Thoughts
Positive thinking is something you have complete control over, and it is scientifically proven to boost your immune system, ward off cardiovascular disease, fight depression, and extend your lifespan. If that’s not a good enough reason to come to the sunny side of the street, I don’t know what is. Have you ever observed a face that goes from thinking negatively to thinking positively? The other day I saw a woman sitting at a table, eyes closed, sun shining on her face and she had the slightest smile peeking through. I can only imagine what she was thinking about, but it was definitely positive. Positive thinkers cope better with stress and are more resilient. Start by writing down one positive moment every day. A study published in the Journal of Research in Personality had a group of 90 undergraduate students that were split into two groups. One group wrote about a positive experience every day for three consecutive days, the other group wrote about an unrelated control subject. Three months later, the students were revisited. Those who had written about positive experiences, even just for three days, had better mood levels, fewer illnesses, and fewer trips to the infirmary. When it comes to positive thinking, even a day can make a difference. So get started right now.
Indulge in a Face Massage
Facial massages relax your tense muscles, encourages lymphatic drainage, and flush the face with nutrient-rich blood. Already popular in the UK, and becoming a point of curiosity in the US, women have been flocking to Nichola Joss Spas in London and New York to receive their signature treatment, where she literally massages your face from the inside. Meghan Markle is one of their star clients and claims it's how she maintains her swooping jawline. Naturally, we want to do this at home. Pop Sugar caught up with the London-based skincare expert Joss for guidance. She said:
“Yes. Do facial massage every night at bedtime and using your favorite facial oil. Work from the center of your face outwards and upwards. The great thing is you can be really creative and play! Feel for tension points and use a little more pressure [to] really start to work out all the stress using fingertips and palms of hands. [Use] sweeping motions, circular fingertip motions, and knuckles for along the jawline. Finish with sweeping across the chest area and down the sides of the neck."
We hold a substantial amount of tension in our faces. Massage helps eliminate the toxins and leaves us healthier and glowing from the inside. I've rounded up some of my favorites below. First, apply the facial oil, then use a combination of the rollers and your hands to achieve a relaxed and de-puffed face. Expert tip: put your jade roller in the fridge. You're welcome.
Final Thoughts
Although being healthy is a lifetime dedication, I like to think you can reset at any time on any day. Why wait until tomorrow? Add these three simple steps today and every day!
I would love to hear about your journeys. Please leave a comment.
